Saturday, 10 AM - 3 PM; Instructor: Michael Graham
Participants will see and learn the woodworking techniques that are used in the making of the traditional Shaker oval box. Michael has been involved in the creation of oval boxes here at Sabbathday Lake for 14 years. Using a "kit" (cherry and pine woods) specially created by Michael for this workshop, attendees will assemble, finish, paint or oil their own #0 (4" x 2-1/2" x 1-1/2") and #1 (5" x 3" x 1-3/4") oval boxes. Nineteenth and 20th century Shaker made oval boxes from the Sabbathday Lake collection will be examined. No woodworking experience necessary. Materials provided - fee includes kit.
