1. The third annual 'Rooting for Democracy' plant sale, hosted by the New Gloucester Democratic Committee, will be held on Saturday, June 12 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Cloutier's Market on Route 100 in the Upper Village. Plants of all varieties from members' personal gardens will be offered at bargain prices. Arrive early for the best selection!
In addition, raffle tickets to win lobsters fresh from the bay will be sold at the plant sale. Two lucky names drawn will each win 6 of Maine's premier delicacy. The price of a raffle ticket is $3 each, or 4 tickets for $10. The drawing will be held during the plant sale at noon; you need not be present to win. To purchase advance lobster raffle tickets, call Mary Duggan at 926-4448.
2. After you’ve gotten your bargain plants why not check out the Community Garden at Opportunity Farm? We’ll be in and out all day planting the food pantry plots as well as designing our own 12x15 plots. See you there!

The New Gloucester Community Market welcomes a few new vendors this week: Bread and More Bakery (whoopee pie anyone?) of Mechanic Falls, Swift River Coffee Roasters, will be handing out free samples of their locally roasted coffee and Beth of Townhouse Farm in Auburn will also be present with her lovely selection of cheeses. This, of course, is all in addition to our awesome assortment of vendors you already know and love! If you couldn’t make it to the plant sale on Saturday, we’ve got you covered: Organic (heirloom) seedlings and plants are still available!
One last announcement: The Community Market will be hosting the first annual New Gloucester’s Number One Pie Contest on July 4th! Cash prize to be announced. More info to follow!
Hope to see you all out and about in New Gloucester this weekend,
Laura Campbell
