Woodworking\: Drawer Construction
Saturday\, 9 AM - 12 Noon (session 1) OR 1 PM - 4 PM (session 2)\;

Basic hand-dovetailed drawer construction will be demonstrated. Participants will practice layout\, grooving\, through dovetails and half-blind dovetails. Materials will be provided. Please bring a pencil\, square\, marking knife\, T-bevel (or dovetail gauge)\, dovetail saw\, chisels\, mallet\, block plane and clamps if you have them. Important Note\: choose session 1 or session 2 when registering.

Chair Caning (Class 2)
Saturday\, 9 AM - 4 PM\; Instructor\: Fran Faulkner
Learn the 7-step method of chair caning. Bring a chair of your own that is clean and sound. The class is restricted to hand woven chairs (the chairs can be identified by the hole drilled through the seat and/or back for the weaving of the cane). Supplies will be provided to get you started on your first chair. Take special note to bring hand woven chair. Fran will be available the following Saturday\, August 22 from 9 AM - 12 Noon for those needing more guidance.

Heirloom Herbal Ornaments
Saturday\, 10 AM - 2 PM\; Instructor\: Betsey-Ann Golon
Return of a favorite! A wonderful workshop filled with fragrant herbs and fun. The class will visit the Shaker herb gardens and harvest lamb's ear\, thyme\, sage\, oregano and other fresh herbs. The class will then create stars\, wreaths and other ornaments that have been made since the late 18th century. Each participant will make 4 to 6 ornaments which they will finish and take home.

NEW! Tin Punch Candle Holder
Saturday\, 9 AM - 12 Noon\; Instructors\: Stephen and Karen Seymour
Ages 5 to 95. Adults and children will work together with hammers and nails of varying sizes to create a preset pattern or a completely unique pattern of their own. Creators of these unique candleholders will be provided the opportunity to paint their creations or leave it the natural silver color. Candles will be provided so that everyone may enjoy the full impact of the illuminated design. Wear your work clothes and come prepared to get dirty.

Maine Native American Summer Market and Demonstration
at Shaker Village

Native American artists from the Penobscot\, Passamaquoddy\, Micmac and Maliseet tribes in Maine will demonstrate and sell their ash splint and sweetgrass basketry\, etched birch bark vessels\, stone sculpture and woodcarving. The sale and demonstration has been organized in conjunction with the Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance and is supported in part by the Maine Arts Commission\, the Maine Humanities Council and the Maine Community Foundation.
